Preparing for University

Besdides A Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, there are a couple of other options.

Cambridge Pre-U

Cambridge A Pre-U involves more teaching hours than A Levels and is more stretching. However, higher UCAS tariff points are awarded. There is no intermediate examination like the AS Level, but Pre-U does offer total freedom of choice with subjects. Further information can be found on the www.Pre-U.info website.

Cambridge Pre-U is available in 25 Principal Subjects. Each Principal Subject is a two-year programme of study with exams at the end. Short Courses (typically one-year programmes) are also available in some subjects.

The syllabus has been developed with input from universities and higher education. All syllabuses develop in-depth subject knowledge and skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, team working, independent learning and effective communication.

Students can choose any combination of subjects, and can combine Cambridge Pre-U with A Level qualifications. UK universities accept Cambridge Pre-U and recognition is growing internationally, with 9000 Cambridge schools in over 160 countries worldwide. Cambridge Pre-U is taught in over 150 UK state and independent schools.

The University Foundation Programme

The University Foundation Programme (UFP) is a one year full-time modular course which offers students an alternative entry route to British University degree courses.

The UFP is offered in both London (at David Game College) and Bath (at Bath Academy and are British Council accredited, and Ofsted inspected.

UFP offer a variety of pathways for entry to undergraduate degree courses. Currently these are: Architecture, Art and Design; Business and Finance; Engineering and Technology; Law, Humanities and Social Sciences; and Science and Pharmacy.

UDP is not as academically robust as other curricula and is not accepted at many leading universities. It is marketed heavily to foreign students as a guaranteed, faster and cheaper route to UK university education.
