Why Choose Independent Education Part 1
Why Choose Independent Education (Part 2)
Wide range of extracurricular activities
Extra-curricular activities and trips overseas broaden children’s horizons. Apart from academic success, the best independent schools aim to create happy, healthy, rounded individuals.
Private schools often involve children in community projects, for example volunteering as part of the Duke of
Edinburgh Award.
Most schools offer a fantastic range of sports and extra-curricular activities including
scuba diving, fishing, horse
riding, ballet, cadets, ballet, drama productions, Young Enterprise, public speaking, debating, language clubs,
polo, squash, martial arts and so many more.
Excellent facilities
The settings for many independent schools are spectacular; the facilities many offer are second to none.
From flood-lit astroturf, to state-of-the-art theatres, recording studios and science labs and luxurious sport and
leisure centres, the facilities at good independent schools are outstanding.
Smaller classes and Attention to individual needs
The average class size in independent schools is between 12 and 15. In state schools, this figure can rise to more
than 35, even for the younger age groups.
Smaller class sizes are even more important for children with special learning needs, and many independent schools
cater for such pupils exceptionally well.
With outstanding resources at their disposal, independent schools ensure that all pupils are well cared for and
frequently monitored. More often than not, each pupil has a termly review of their progress with a tutor and a
personal development plan.
Better Career Prospects
Studies prove that 28.6 per cent of pupils whose parents paid full independent school fees earned £70,000 or more by
their 30s. Only 7.6 per cent of state-educated children earned the equivalent amount.
Research has also shown that a large proportion of ministers, journalists, barristers and judges were educated in the
independent sector.
Less Disruption
In a recent poll, over 30 per cent of parents cited better discipline as a reason why they would choose an
independent school. On average, over a thousand children are suspended from UK state schools every day.
Independent schools have traditional values and provide a positive environment for learning and development
Disruptive children are much less likely to be tolerated in Independent Schools and being independent, the schools
can act far more quickly than in the state sector.
